Mike Perkins has been the Representative for Oakland and Sidney in the Maine Legislature since 2016. Before the legislature, Mike was elected to the Oakland Town Council and has served as Council Chair for 15 years. While many community's tax rates have steadily increased, Oakland has stayed far behind without decreasing services, proving that you can have an effective local government with a reasonable price tag.
Mike grew up on a dairy farm in Belgrade with nine siblings and graduated from Messalonskee High School. Upon graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he started his career in law enforcement. While in the Air Force, Mike was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base and was a flying guard for Air Force One, where he met one of his heroes President Ronald Reagan on more than one occasion.
Upon leaving the armed services, mike moved back to Maine, continued his law enforcement career for over thirty years, and retired from the Somerset Sheriffs Department. During this same time, Mike also started KMD driving school, where he has taught thousands of teenagers how to operate a motor vehicle safely and is one of the largest motorcycle schools in Maine.
Mike has been married to his wife Kelly for forty years, has two children and grandchildren, and is looking forward to having more. Mike knows us becuse he is one of us working for us and understands the issues facing the communities of senate district 14 Albion, Fairfield, Oakland, Waterville, and Winslow. Please join your friends and neighbors in supporting him for the State Senate.
Mike Is committed to resolving
High
Inflation
Inflation is reducing the buying power of our friends, family, and neighbors and putting heavy pressure on the elderly on a fixed income. When in Augusta, Mike will work to find solutions to reduce the cost of necessities and push for responsible government spending.
Parental Rights
Parents should always have a seat at the table regarding what their children learn in school. Mike will ensure that their seat is protected by working to pass legislation to defend parental rights in Maine Schools.
